EAT MY BUBBLES....Owl Creek Swim Team update (May 13)
Good Afternoon Everyone,
While I will not be serving as your exalted Swim Team President this year (boo term limits), I will continue to send out the timely (and hilarious) communications...so let's get right to it
I hope you all are getting excited about the upcoming Owl Creek Summer Swim Season. It has been rumored that this will be the best year yet (that might be difficult considering that we won the LSA Division II Championship last year, but I digress).
Just wanted to fill you in on a couple “happenings” ….
- The Swim Team Kickoff Party will be held Saturday, May 28th 6 PM – 10 PM. There will be a DJ, pizza and snacks for the swimmers. There will also be a mandatory new parent meeting (only lasting about 15-30 minutes) where new President Josh Cummins will introduce himself, the coaching staff, unveil a bronze state of me, and go over expectations for practice and meets. We have a lot of new swimmers this year and will need the parents to commit to being involved through volunteering. The kickoff party will also be the final chance to order merchandise for the season. Order forms will be available.
- Tuesday, May 31st – First Official Practice (potential drylands week of May 23rd). This is a later start date than usual, but pushed back due to pool renovations (which look terrific BTdubs)
I also have some bad news. Bailey Cox, who served as the head coach the past two seasons, will not be returning. He initially had planned to, but was presented with an amazing professional job opportunity that he could not pass up. We will miss him dearly, but wish him the best of luck.
HOWEVA (to quote Stephen A. Smith), I’m pleased to announce that Ashley Owen has stepped up and will be the head coach this summer. Ashley has been a member of the Owl Creek swim team since before a started losing my hair (long time) and has been an assistant the past two summers. Also returning is her brother Taylor Owen. We also have two new coaches this summer: Elizabeth Frericks (who you all know) and Jacob Dray. Jacob is a "NO C" (non-OC), but he currently swims @ Bellarmine. Both with be fantastic additions to our staff.
- Registration will close May 23rd….and as a reminder, all dues must be paid prior to the first swim meet (June 6th) in order to participate in the meet.
I will be making updates to the website over the next few days. These updates will include projected practice schedules as well as any other pertinent information. Be certain to check the website frequently and things are very fluid.
Until then, start gearing up. I'll show myself out.
