Junior Predators

Mission

Our mission is to create a secure learning space tailored for children who would like to be a part of the Owl Creek Predators but are not yet able to swim 5 meters unassisted. We’ll focus on nurturing children in a non-competitive and safe aquatic setting, fostering their confidence to become proficient swimmers and enabling them to seamlessly transition into the competition-level Owl Creek Predators team in the future.

Season Goal

Coaches will work with Junior Predators to get them comfortable in the water and learn basic safety skills.

Eligibility

  • Must be an Owl Creek resident or grandchild of a resident
  • Ages 3-6
  • Maximum participation: 2 seasons
    • If a swimmer is age 6 in their second season, they must join the main Owl Creek Predator team
  • Swimmers capable of swimming 5 meters unassisted should register for the regular Owl Creek Predator team

Meets

There are no LSA meet requirements for this team. However, Junior Predator families that feel ready may request to compete in a meet, provided the swimmer can complete the length of the pool unassisted.

Junior Predator FAQs

Can a Junior Predator attend other Owl Creek practices?

No. To maintain the safest possible environment for all swimmers and ensure adequate instructor time, Junior Predators should only attend their assigned practice times.

If my Junior Predator progresses quickly and is ready for a competitive meet before the end of the season, can they swim in it?

This will be at the discretion of the coaches, but likely, yes, as long as the swimmer is able to complete the length safely and without adult assistance.

My child doesn’t meet the age requirement but also can’t swim unassisted. Can they join the Junior Predators?

No, this team is limited to ages 3-6. However, we will share contact information of swim instructors that offer private and semi-private swim lessons for children who don’t meet the Junior Predator requirements.

My child was a Junior Predator last season, but they are now 6 and still can’t swim the length unassisted. Can they stay in the Junior program?

The Junior Predator program is designed as a stepping stone to help young swimmers build confidence and progress toward joining the main Owl Creek Predator team. Because of this, participation is limited to a maximum of two seasons, and swimmers who are 6 in their second season must transition to the main team. If your child still needs additional support, we can provide recommendations for private or semi-private swim lessons with experienced instructors to help them gain the necessary skills.
